Tools I recommend.

Hardware, software and other resources.

Development

  • Python & Django

My go-to backend stack. It's not flashy, but is rock-solid and reliable. Great for data handling and AI integrations. Any language that got it's name from Monty Python is fine by me.

  • React & Next.js

Was resistant to JavaScript frameworks at first, but the speed and available resources have won me over. Perfect for modern, responsive interfaces like this one.

  • VS Code

A three-pane layout has become my default: main editor above, split terminals below for running servers and git operations.

  • Digital Ocean

After some AWS billing 'surprises', I've been loving Digital Ocean. App Platform and Droplets are both straightforward, billing is transparent, and support is excellent.

Creative

  • Adobe Creative Suite

Master-level expertise across the Adobe ecosystem. Deep knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator for image and design, After Effects for motion graphics, and extensive experience with creative workflows across the suite.

  • 3D and Game Engines

ZBrush for character creation and Unreal Engine for real-time 3D.

  • Video Editing Systems

Expert-level knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro / FCP X, and Avid back in the day.

  • Color Grading & Finishing

Experienced with high-end systems including FilmLight Baselight, Nucoda Film Master, Scratch and DaVinci Resolve.

Knowledge Management

  • Notion

This is my digital life OS. Managing projects, content, and learning resources. The custom databases are powerful, and it has integrations, so I can plug my data into Django and LLMs etc.

  • Day One

Digital diary for personal and professional notes. Great for quick captures, morning mind dumps, and creative musings. Cross-device sync is excellent.

Focus & Productivity

  • Be Focused Pro

Simple Pomodoro timer that's transformed my work habits. 25-minute focus periods with set breaks.

  • White Noise Masking

I found the perfect balance between natural sounds and white noise with the Water Stream Series collection. Less jarring than digital white noise, but without squawking nature distractions.

  • Optive Fusion UD

Single-use eye drops that are perfect for heavy screen time. Capsules reduce contamination risks and last longer than opened eye drop bottles.

Hardware

  • Crane CV2 Laptop Stand

Repurposed DJ gear that makes for the perfect working laptop stand. Higher elevation than consumer stands, built like a tank, and still looks new after years in transit.

  • Sony WH-1000XM3

Great noise-cancelling headphones. A few minor quirks but still the best I've found.

  • Dog Ball Launcher

Repurposed dog ball launcher to use as an eye training tool during work breaks.
